I had to miss a few ABC meetings over the winter due to schedule conflicts, but I was very glad to make it to Aprils, and also had the pleasure of shooting it! It’s always nice to see industry friends and reconnect, meet new faces and especially meet new venues, as each meeting tries to

For The Love Of Food

I have many passions and I always try to combine them when possible! Photography is of course my core but I also spend quite a bit of time around the cigar industry, computers & technology – and food! I’m not a chef by any means but I have a huge appreciation for fine dishes and

How Photographers Should Be Sharing Photos With Vendors

In the world of wedding photographers, it’s often requested that we share some of our photos with vendors and for very good reasons. First, we are the ONLY staple vendor that actually produces an end product. WE are what ALL the other vendors need. Yes, I know video does too, but let’s face it –

Tampa Corporate Headshots

These are highlights of a recent shoot for a new local realtor, who needed fresh headshots for his website and listings! These were done on-location, using my traveling studio – and on the front porch of his home.

Personal and Vehicle GPS Unit Product Photography

These are some GPS units, designed for vehicle and personal tracking for emergencies such as with Alzheimer patients. I love working with and supporting local companies, and these guys have a great thing started! I’ll be doing all new marketing material, displays and advertisements next!

Get More Dynamic Range From Your Canon Camera

So I just wrapped up a product shoot and accidentally discovered something I sure have never read somewhere else. Not saying it’s not known, but it was news to me! For those of us with recent Canon bodies (this may apply to Nikon/Sony-sensored bodies as well but I don’t have one to test), we have the ability to shoot at multiple RAW resolution levels. There are plenty of times when it’s a good idea to use those lower-res settings, such as when shooting for web-only use, or something you know will never be printed big or cropped. It saves a ton of space and time!

I do a lot of regular product work and also do a lot of standard cigar shots for my other business, reviewing cigars. Every day I take the exact same shots of cigars for the website, and they are only used in videos and on the web so I always use small raw

An Ala Carte Pavilion Wedding Tito & Shomari

It was a long and fabulous day for everyone involved, no more so than my wonderful couple Tito & Shomari!  The whole day before, we had the Nigerian Engagement ceremony, which was longer than most traditional weddings (see it here).  But on the wedding day, with over 600 people, it meant even more festivities and events!  The day started very early with the huge bridal party getting ready at the Tampa Grand Hyatt, a wonderful spot that is vastly under used in the area.

Tito Ogunsola & Shomari Smith Nigerian Engagement Ceremony

This was a beautiful, traditional Nigerian Engagement Ceremony the night prior to the traditional wedding (blog feature coming very soon!). In this ceremony, the groom and his family formally request the bride’s hand in marriage with a dowry in the presence of friends and family. The dresses were absolutely gorgeous with so many vibrant colors for different families, hours of music and dancing, prayers, a ton of great food of course, and an entire room of happiness and joy for the couple!

Things You Need To Know About Your Website

I help many of my friends in the wedding industry with all kinds of computer needs.  I have an extensive IT background, unlike the vast majority of people.  Anyone who I’ve worked with knows I don’t make a big deal out of it, or charge much if anything.  Many things are simple and quick for me even though they may be daunting to the average business owner, and I never mind doing favors.  I have run across many things over the past few years, some of which are very critical and everyone should be aware of no matter what your level of involvement with your company or knowledge of your website.

I COMPLETELY understand that websites, domain names, hosting, servers, registrations, renewals, etc. can be absolutely overwhelming, confusing and just plain undo-able for most people.  Even I get confused sometimes when I have a particularly complicated client or situation.  But one thing I have seen quite frequently is so important that I’m putting out a plain English warning so I can try to help prevent big future problems for others.

What To Do When Your Work Is Stolen

Given enough time and/or volume most of us will have material stolen from our websites and used somewhere else, usually on another website or Facebook. When that happens you first must determine the ultimate resolution that is applicable to the situation. This basically comes down to one of two things, either the offending party owes you money or you just want the material removed.

In the first case, you need to go through sometimes drawn out litigation. The PPA has staff on hand to help with this. Things get more complicated if the work has been published, and if you have not filed for copyright protection of the image(s). Simply holding the copyright, as you do by producing any work, does not give you full rights. But that’s another topic for another day…

In the 2nd and most common case, you simply want the stolen work to be removed and maybe tell the thief to…well…you get the idea. In this case I suggest two things. First, email the site/person with the following notice:
